NEEDS
Blacklight Film Photography is the brand of Vancouver-based film photographer Liam Karlsson. He specializes in black and white film photography. The name blacklight comes from his approach of balancing white and black light in his personal style of photography. He works with various film cameras and equipment. He has over 10 years of experience in the field.
Blacklight wants to establish a logo and brand that evokes the same mysterious and modern film photography style of Karlsson’s work. He wanted to step away from camera icons yet showcase his film experience and skills.
SOLUTIONS
We took inspiration from Karlsson's work and process to develop a clean and sophisticated approach to the brand. With so much content to work with, we wanted to highlight his equipment, knowledge on black and white film photography and his experience in a clean and organized way.
Some of Karlsson's photography evoke eeriness and mystery. By applying a treatment with the lines in the logo, we created an interesting effect that is similar to a flash of light from a camera. We played with different variations of the logo to support the different moods of Karlsson's style.
